You all seemed to enjoy my Tibi try-on post last week (hello new subscribers and THANK YOU for being here!) so I am doubling down on the Tibi content this week. Who else consumes Style Class as if it’s Days of Our Lives circa 1987? As an aside, I have such fond memories of watching DOOL as a kid with my mom during South Florida summers when it was too hot to be outside. Whilst mom’s Marlboro Light smoke swirled around us, we would eat our cold egg salad sandwiches on toasted white bread and enjoy the latest drama between Bo and Hope. Then we would have an hour off before General Hospital. My husband makes gagging noises when I even mention the words, “egg salad,” but it tastes like home to me. On this week’s live, Katurah started off by asking Emma what summer means to her. Emma did not mention soap operas or egg salad.
Hot Take 1: I need a red sandal.
I bought and sold a pair of Tory Burch red ballerina flats in the last year because I felt like Minnie Mouse when I wore them and now the only red shoes I own are Worishofers (inspired of course by Becky Malinksy). The latter work well with jeans but, for me, are not refined enough for dressier looks. Enter the two red Tibi sandals from the live. I have and love love love the Barry sandal that Emma is wearing, but mine are black. I am constantly stalking the Barry in other colors on resale but they are hard to find. I find sizing to be tricky in Tibi shoes so I’ll offer that I wear a 39 in these though I am a true 38 in most shoes. Don’t even get me started on Keturah’s Bryan shearling flip flops. They have been on my wish list forever and I haven’t managed to track them down on resale. I’m not sure if I would take a 38 or 39 in these? If anyone has intel/reviews on these, please share. Anyway! I love the way the ladies styled the red shoe with white and grey and I wear a lot of these colors in the summer. I am tracking the following minimalist red sandal options:
Bernardo Hercu ($147.00)
Reformation Jessie sandals ($128)
Tkee Jo sandals ($95) - I also like the idea of the J.Crew x Tkee jellies but they are mostly sold out at the moment
Saltwater Classic Sandal ($70.95) - I know these aren’t for everyone, but I love them and own them in gold.
If you are a 37, please buy these Pradas (157.99) and send me a picture!
Of course, there’s more to love than the red sandals in the screenshot above. Ooooooh the dress that Emma is wearing appears to be another skirt/pant/jumpsuit situation like this dress I am obsessing over! So cute with the sweatshirting sleeveless top layered over it which is now on my wishlist. When I attempted to source other short sleeve sweatshirts this pre-owned gem came up and it’s not a no for me.
Hot Take 2: A good tank top is hard to find.
Every summer I buy a fresh set of new tank tops because what else am I supposed to wear all summer? The Gap, J.Crew, Everlane, Uniqlo - I have them all. But I don’t wear them. I always feel 1) basic 2) like I’m going to be cold 3) too exposed. Sure, I’ll pop them on for work layered under other things but I never think of the humble tank top as A Top.
Katurah said as much at minute 41:20 of the live. “It’s really hard to find tank tops with a point of view.” I had not thought about it that way before, but perhaps this is why I don’t ever wear them. The amount of skin shown in this Tank With a Point of View feels terrifying but Emma also shows us how to layer it over a Basic Tank for more coverage. Genius. The eggplant colorway is now on my wishlist which brings me to
Hot Take 3: I might want to wear brown silky pants this summer.
Pants are never on my summer buy list and if they were, they probably wouldn’t be brown, but I do love the look of the Silk Voile Cargo Triple Pleat pants in light mulberry that Emma is wearing above. At $675, I will not be buying these unless they make it to sale but I can report that I own the cropped triple pleat pants from (I believe) their first iteration in cotton twill and they are fabulous. I took a size 8 because that was all that was available and they are a smidge big in the waist but the pleats hang so perfectly that this might be the right size for me. I messaged Emma and she confirmed that the waist in the silk voile would be the same as the triple pleat. I also own the Crispy Nylon Stella Pleated Cargo Pant in Navy (sized down to a 4?! ) that I adore. All so say, I already own 1) a triple pleat pant in khaki and 2) a cargo pant in navy but 3) I still might need a silky brown drapey pant for summer. And I am not a pants person!
I am tracking the following silky brown pants:
J.Crew stratus pants in in textured satin ($114.99, final sale) - They aren’t cargo or pleated but they are silky at least. I have these in ivory and they are Pretty Good. The sizing is weird for me - medium is too big and small is too small. Petite is too short and regular length is too long. I have the medium regular length and I’ve had them altered to perfection. I might get the brown version for summer!
COS Voluminous Pleated Culottes ($165) - these look fun! Rose showed them on a try on reel earlier today. I’m wondering if they are - dare I say it - too full?
Massimo Dutti Flowing Creased Effect Trousers ($160) - these look pretty!
Honorable Mentions
Like the shearling flip flops, finding a pre-owned Tuxedo shirt in my budget has proven to be an elusive search. Tibi has produced it in many colors and fabrications over the years and I am always on the hunt. This week a Tibi Fan mentioned the Anthropologie Pilcro tuxedo shirt and it looks like it could be a winner. They are plentiful on Poshmark. Another option is an Actual Vintage Tuxedo shirt, thanks to Lauren of pfohlofstyle for the idea! Note that she sourced the actual vintage version for a costume but I might wear it IRL.
I still love the slip skirt/dress with lace. I’ve contemplated buying some version of this from J. Crew or Doen and have always questioned whether I will wear it. Also, it feels like every brand has done this (though not in the special, elevated way as Tibi, to be sure) so it’s at the point of being almost too trendy for me to feel like I want it. What do you all think?
Post-Scripts
Last week I mentioned being very into this embellished vest and that I was contemplating buying it for one of the graduations I am attending this spring. I was able to scratch the itch for this look by picking up this H&M sheer embellished skirt and matching cami top. I also bought this burgundy slip dress - the straight across neckline made it a winner for me.
My closet is in desperate need of tops that are not t-shirts or button downs. I keep striking out and after reading Atlantic - Pacific’s How-To, I’m wondering if I should work on building out my button down options since that is clearly the water I am comfortable in.
Now that Doen is making capri pants, I finally feel seen. That said, for all of my yapping in favor of capri pants over the last year, I have yet to actually wear them outside of my bedroom.
Lauren tried on some summer Tibi for us - so helpful to see IRL images beyond style class.
Thanks for reading!
XOXO,
Tara
I loved this! Have been so tempted by the tibi footwear but nervous about sizing since their international returns are such a pain 😭
Thank you and Yes! Its so tricky! I’m in the same boat with resale shopping - hard to return!
